Presentation:

The presentation will provide professional engineers with practical guidance on ethical responsibilities of the profession, emphasizing their fiduciary duty to protect clients and the public’s health, safety, and welfare. It reviews Nebraska’s professional engineering Code of Practice, including competence, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, accurate representation of qualifications, compliance with laws, professional conduct, and regulated titles.  In addition, the presentation will cover ethical use of artificial intelligence, stressing that AI should support rather than replace professional judgment and must be used with appropriate training, security, disclosure, oversight, and quality control. The presentation will incorporate case studies and hypotheticals to highlight potentially competing ethical responsibilities.

Presenter:

Brent Meyer is the Office Managing Partner of Husch Blackwell’s Omaha office, Vice-Chair of the firm’s Construction and Design Group, and a nationally recognized construction attorney consistently honored by The Best Lawyers in America® and The Legal 500 United States for his work in construction law and litigation. He also counsels governmental bodies on public construction projects, procurement, and public-private partnerships.  Brent’s practice includes contract negotiation and drafting, delay and change-order claims, payment disputes, mechanic’s liens, professional liability, design defects, bid protests, and large-scale construction disputes.
