13th Street Walkability Study
By: Chris Rolling, Olsson
The City of Omaha adopted a “Complete Streets” policy in 2015 that requires street improvement projects be considered in a more holistic way to accommodate all transportation modes. The 13th Street Walkability Study was performed in response to the desire to re-imagine the corridor in a way that could open it to more modes of transportation. It examined 13th Street from Interstate 80 to Interstate 480 to pinpoint the best use of available right-of-way and identify potential improvements. Recognizing the benefit of community buy-in, the study was also conducted with a strong emphasis on collaboration with the public and stakeholders. The final study provided a corridor vision and recommended cross sections as well as a concept on how to implement the improvements.
